Mean income per capita Dataset - v4 via Gapminder
2
About this fileThis file has multiple sheets with data for one or more indicators used by Gapminder. In this sheet below you'll first find an overview of the indicators (measures) and the list of underlying sources. The actual data we use, is found in the sheet(s) labeled "data-...".
This file is also a documentation of the data process. To follow how the data was transformed from the original sources, start in the sheet to the far right, which holds the input data. You can then follow the process step by step, by looking at the formulas in the sheets from right to left, until you reach the output in the "data-..." sheets.

Dataset description:The data on mean income household per capita was compiled by Gapminder as follows, to be used for income distributions over hundreds of years. These numebrs are anchored in the official Mean Income indicator from the World Bank for the present period with data form houshold surveys. For coutnries with no such data from the World Bank, Gapminder has estimated mean income based on the countries GDP per capita. For the years outside the available timeframe of actual World Bank data (the outer range being 1967 to 2021, but most countries have veru few of these years, when surveys were conducted).
Gapmidner used the growth rates of the constant dollar GDP per capita, to estimate mean incomes historically back to 1800 and up to 2100. No need to say that these are rough estimates. For the period 1981-2019 : we use data from the World Bank, which is the source with the most comparable and broad coverage, published in the World Development Indicators: "Survey mean consumption or income per capita, total population (2017 PPP $ per day)".
The indicator we align to is described like this in World Bank PIP (Poverty and Inequality Platform)
"Indicators Survey mean/average consumption or income per capita, total population (2017 PPP $ per day) The mean is the average monthly household per capita income or consumption expenditure from the survey in 2017 PPP."

For developersIf you like the data we use into your own products, it's better if you fetch data from our standardized gitHub repo on https://open-numbers.github.io
These spreadsheets are part of Gapminder's data compilation process and allow end users to track how we combine data.
