About this file
9
Gapminder has combined population data from multiple sources into long trends for the world, four regions and countries all the way from 1800 to 1900. In the following sheets you find the data with years in columns, and then the country and region datasets are duplicated in the two last sheets "pivoted", with years on the first row, to make it easier to draw charts quickly.

Data source summary
12
— Period 1950 to 2015 : most data comes from UN Population Division World Population Prospects 2017
— Period 2016 to 2100: We use the same UN source forecast medium fertility variant.
— Period 1800 to 1950: Data from hundreds of sources compiled by Mattias Lindgren in Gapminders population series, version 3. The main source is Angus Maddison’s data which is maintained and improved by the CLIO Infra Project. See detailed documentation of v3 at the bottom of page gapm.io/dpop.

FormulasThe formulas in this workbook may be referring to other spreadsheets online, by their named ranges, and not by sheet names. If a spreadsheet is broken in the tree of formulas, we avoid other formulas to get broken, by always linking to the output data sheets, which are manually copied and pasted form the formula outputs in the sheets to the right of DATA_PREP sheet.
